Nepal’s Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli has warned that uniting leftist forces without a clear shared ideology may damage the communist movement. He spoke on Saturday during a program marking the 32nd death anniversary of former CPN-UML general secretary Madan Bhandari in Kathmandu. Oli said it would be meaningless to bring together groups that have moved in many directions without proper ideological understanding.

He pointed out that divisions within the communist movement often come from personal interests, not genuine ideological differences. Oli highlighted that the tendency to oppose even good initiatives and create discord has been part of the movement’s history. Despite no real ideological conflicts, splits have occurred due to individual agendas.

Oli also noted that the idea of “people’s multi-party democracy” introduced by Bhandari has become a national policy in Nepal. This policy covers political democracy, economic progress, social issues, and human rights. He emphasized that this foundation should guide efforts to achieve a prosperous Nepal and the well-being of its people.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed his party’s commitment to patriotism, national independence, and integrity. He declared any attempt to restore the monarchy is both impossible and unacceptable. Oli urged party members to move forward with unity and confidence in the face of recent protests by pro-monarchy groups.

The pro-monarchy movement began in March and has caused unrest in Nepal. Demonstrations by these groups have sometimes turned violent, with clashes between protestors and security forces reported. The movement demands the return of the monarchy and the declaration of Nepal as a Hindu state.

Since the monarchy was abolished in 2008, Nepal has been a republic with secular values. The government continues to uphold this system despite the ongoing protests. Observers say Nepal’s political situation remains delicate and that maintaining peace will require careful dialogue and respect for democratic principles.

Prime Minister Oli’s message focuses on strengthening the communist movement through clear ideology and unity. It reflects ongoing efforts to stabilize Nepal’s political environment and promote national development.
