Accra, Ghana – The Kosmos Innovation Center (KIC) has partnered with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) Ghana to support food innovation start-ups. This collaboration aims to equip young entrepreneurs with essential regulatory knowledge and fast-track their products to market while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Empowering Start-Ups Through Training and Mentorship

Through this partnership, KIC and FDA Ghana will provide targeted training, mentorship, and guidance to help entrepreneurs successfully navigate the FDA certification process. The initiative seeks to eliminate key regulatory hurdles that often slow down the growth of food-related start-ups.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Benjamin Gyan-Kesse, Executive Director of KIC, emphasized the importance of regulatory compliance in business growth.

“By supporting start-ups to achieve FDA certification, we are ensuring their products meet global standards. This will create access to new markets and opportunities while safeguarding the health and safety of consumers. Additionally, this partnership will establish mentorship and advisory sessions that align food innovation with regulatory excellence,” he stated.

FDA Ghana’s Commitment to MSME Growth

Dr. Delese Mimi Darko, CEO of the FDA Ghana, reaffirmed the Authority’s dedication to supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the food sector.

“As regulators with a difference, the FDA is not just focused on enforcement but also on empowering MSMEs to meet compliance standards and bring their products to market with ease. This commitment is reflected in our Progressive Licensing Scheme,” she noted.

She also highlighted the crucial role of the FDA’s Industrial Support Directorate, which provides specialized assistance to businesses to help them navigate regulatory processes efficiently.

Driving Innovation and Economic Growth

This collaboration aligns with KIC’s broader mission to drive entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainable business growth in Ghana. By providing young agripreneurs and food innovators with essential regulatory tools, this initiative ensures that their products meet both local and international quality standards.

For many start-ups, regulatory compliance can be a major challenge, often delaying product launches and limiting market access. With direct support from FDA Ghana, emerging businesses in the food industry will now have a clearer path to success.
