Chinese automaker Geely has officially launched its new hybrid SUV, the Galaxy M9, at a global event in Milan. The unveiling also marked a key milestone as Geely’s Galaxy sub-brand passed one million units sold. The Galaxy M9 is built on Geely’s GEA Evo architecture and aims to redefine the full-size SUV experience by combining high performance, advanced energy systems, and intelligent driving features.
The Galaxy M9 is one of the largest vehicles in its class. It measures 17.07 feet in length, 6.55 feet in width, and 5.9 feet in height. The design of the SUV is inspired by both Chinese aesthetics and modern global styles. Inside the vehicle, a 30-inch integrated screen and AI-supported smart cabin create a high-tech environment for both the driver and passengers.
One of the key features of the Galaxy M9 is its impressive hybrid powertrain. The vehicle is equipped with the Thor EM-P super hybrid system. It can accelerate from 0 to 62 miles per hour in just 4.5 seconds. When fully charged and fueled, the SUV can travel over 930 miles. Even on a low battery, it maintains strong fuel efficiency by consuming only 1.2 gallons per 62 miles. That equals about 51.6 miles per gallon, making it a fuel-saving option for both city driving and long-distance trips.
The vehicle also includes a digital chassis system developed with the help of British performance car brand Lotus. This AI-powered chassis improves driving stability and responsiveness. In addition, Geely has added its G-Pilot H5 smart driving system to the Galaxy M9. The G-Pilot suite includes five levels of driver assistance technology. The G-Pilot H5 system uses a strong set of sensors to help drivers. It includes 11 cameras, three millimeter-wave radars, and one LiDAR sensor. With this setup, the SUV can offer door-to-door Navigation on Autopilot. This works even without high-definition maps, which is a major improvement for smart driving in different environments.
The Galaxy M9 is expected to compete directly with other hybrid SUVs in the Chinese market, including the Aito M9, Denza N9, and Li Auto’s Li L9. All these models aim to capture the growing demand for large vehicles that offer both fuel savings and modern features. By naming the model with a nine, Geely continues its trend of reserving the number for its flagship vehicles in the Galaxy lineup.
Geely Galaxy already includes several models such as the Xingyuan, L6, L7, E8, Starship 7, Starshine 8, and the LEVC L380. The addition of the M9 strengthens the brand’s presence in the new energy vehicle space. The Galaxy series is part of Geely’s larger effort to become a major force in electric and hybrid car manufacturing, both in China and internationally.
The company’s sales performance supports this strategy. According to the China Passenger Car Association, Geely ranked second in China’s new energy vehicle market from January to April 2025. During that time, the company sold 440,592 NEV units. This gave it a 13.3 percent market share, making it one of the top players in the sector.
