Lancaster-based Chiptech has announced a new partnership to support healthcare innovation across the UK and Europe. The announcement came during a Westminster reception hosted by New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon during his official visit to the UK.
The event took place at the historic Great Hall in Westminster and was attended by key UK Government ministers, including Jonathan Reynolds, Secretary of State for Business and Trade, and Steve Reed, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Business leaders, technology experts, and startup representatives also joined the gathering.
Stronger UK-New Zealand Tech Ties
The reception celebrated the growing partnership between New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Chiptech, which started in Christchurch, New Zealand in 2000, used the event to unveil a new international collaboration.
During the event, Chiptech signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Electech Innovation Cluster, a business-led network in North West England that supports electronics and technology innovation.
This agreement creates a support programme for startups working on healthcare and safety solutions. The focus is on improving care for the elderly and people with health needs using digital technologies.
Chiptech’s Growth in the UK
Chiptech entered the UK market in 2019. Since then, it has become a major provider of digital telecare products, serving over 200,000 users across the country.
The company is based in Dalton Square, Lancaster, and employs 50 people in the UK. Its products help people live independently at home, while also helping health and emergency services respond more quickly and effectively.
Chiptech’s services currently save the NHS and UK social care providers around £2 billion a year. These savings come from fewer hospital admissions, delayed entry into care homes, and faster emergency responses. The company expects these savings to grow to £5 billion as more people use its technology.

New Support for Health-Focused Startups
The new partnership with the Electech Innovation Cluster will support startups working in the fields of assisted living, medical safety, and digital healthcare.
These startups will receive financial support, guidance from experienced mentors, and access to Chiptech’s research, product design, and manufacturing resources.
In addition, selected companies will be able to take their products to global markets using Chiptech’s international network.
Supporting Local and Global Innovation
The Electech Innovation Cluster brings together industry, research, government, and education. Its goal is to help new ideas grow into real-world solutions. The collaboration with Chiptech adds global expertise to this effort.
This partnership will also support the local supply chain in the North West, helping create jobs and attract more investment in health technology.
It also opens the door for better sharing of ideas and innovations between the UK and New Zealand, giving startups the chance to learn from both markets.
A New Model for Health Technology
This programme could serve as a model for future partnerships in other industries. By combining local innovation with the experience of a global company, new and useful products can be developed faster.
For the UK healthcare system, which faces growing pressure from an ageing population, this kind of technology is becoming more important. It helps people stay healthy and safe at home while saving time and money for public services.
Startups interested in applying for the programme are encouraged to contact the Electech Innovation Cluster for more details.
